So, I found out something horrible today. I have to admit, it's actually pretty traumatizing for me to discover this and I'm not really fond of putting out my thoughts about this right in the open, but I think it'd help me cope with it just a little bit.
Just a little bit.
Anyways. It started out as a regular day at school and such, going to boring classes, doing a quiz, working on projects, etcetera, etcetera. After being pretty bored around math class, the period finally ended and I went to the lockers to chat with my friends before we all pranced back home. I was talking to someone about how I was planning to do a certain project, such as the display would look like this, we'd have so-and-so props around and all that good stuff. I go on about how I could bring in those Mao posters because well, the project was about the 1960s, right? The Cultural Revolution was going on around that time, so it would be relevant to the topic. But then my friend interjects with the most scarring statement I've ever heard in my life. He called me a "closet Mao supporter".
I just. Don't know what to think about myself anymore.
I always thought that I was born into a good, Western, non-Communist family. But now I give off the impression of wanting a horrible, manipulative and corrupt totalitarian government? I don't know. I can't even justify it to myself. I think I'll need some time to think this over a bit.
At least I'm not staging plans for a revolutionyet.
EDIT: This is purely for satire purposes. I blame it on reading crap about the Cold War for school. But really, yeah, school. It's making me busy. XD;

Oh man, I love going to Chinese supermarkets. I mean, there are just so many ripoff products that try to look like reliable brand names, but fail epically and end up looking more sketchy instead. Plus, the engrish names of some of the products are just... hilarious because they don't make sense at all. Bonus points to them if they also manage to make it sound like innuendo at the same time. It's also great because the supermarket we went to was actually bought out and "renovated" (by which I mean, they only changed the paint on the walls and everything else was as dirty as ever... okay, maybe it was a bit cleaner), but the label with the prices written on various items still had the logo of the name of the old store; makes you wonder how old that stock was, huh.
One day, though, I will make a collection of photos/a short documentary of these stores. They'll mostly be pictures of the suspicious products because damn, those are seriously the highlights.
( And now for RP-related stuff. )

The 'F' in Setsuna's name must stand for 'Flynn'. Hell, Flynn even gets a laser spell. B|

Video games really commonly take themes from mythology and what not, and with it so rampant in Symphonia and Abyss, it just didn't seem as obvious in Vesperia. An interesting tidbit though, was that vesper = Hesperus, which is the personification of the evening star. Interestingly enough, the 'evening star' is Venus (they have something like Venus too? Innnnnteresting.) and because of its appearances during the evening and morning, it's also the 'morning star'. The morning star was given a different name, which, in Latin is lucifer. And lo and behold, Duke's Entelexeia bud is called Elucifur.
I guess one could interpret that Elucifur and Brave Vesperia had the same goal in mind: saving the world. But just as they are the same goal, there are different methods for solving the same problem.
...I could be looking too far into it, though. XD

Hmm...well, it wasn't really explained in the game how Emil had parents since he technically came into existance only after Marta woke up Ratatosk's core. Looking back on the intro scene, I guess it could've been that Emil really was the name of a person in Palmacosta, just not the form that Ratatosk took. Seeing as the point of view when Emil's mom and dad is in first person, chances are that the true Emil was a random NPC type character that had died.
And then when it shows Ratatosk's core awakening, that's when we see him (Ratatosk-Emil) first, when he's sorta dazed and fuzzy. Seeing as Ratatosk needed some kind of personality, I think that the first name that he heard himself addressed as imprinted in his mind that he was actually that person. Because looking back on the intro, Emil's mom does address Ratatosk as Emil...however, this does not prove as much as a plothole anymore because of one critical detail: she said she couldn't even see his face anymore. So if she merely made the mistake of assuming that Ratatosk was her Emil, then that means that the plothole of Emil having parents is actually not there because he was mistaken for someone else. Of course, with Ratatosk being almost a blank slate, hearing someone else's name triggered something in him to make a history for himself while taking up the name of "Emil".
Also, with the distance between Luin and Palmacosta, it's a fair amount of distance to travel, so assuming that the aunt and uncle have only heard of Emil by name in letters or something, then it would explain how they could assume their role as a guardian. (Because obviously if they've seen Emil before, there's that plothole again, but whatever.)
I'll have to play the game again to see if anything else confirms this theory, because something lame like "everyone recogized Emil because Ratatosk altered people's memories to accomodate him" seems like a really lame excuse.

Mostly a remainder to myself, but oh well.
Apparently, adephagos actually means gluttonous, which I suppose fits the way it is created (entelexeia "overeating" aer) and the way the Adephagos seems to "swallow up" the world...
Entelexeia has some history too, and goes back to Aristotle and some kind of physics I cannot begin to comprehend. Anyways, I've seen a few translations, although a more constant one seems to be "to have an end" or "to be complete". Dunno if it's right, but it could fit the context of the game...
Terca Lumireis seems to be, for the most part, faux Latin or something, although searching 'terca' ended up with Spanish for "stubborn". :\ I think it's just a coincidence.
Anyways, I thought it was pretty interesting!
